BRIEF HISTORY

The earliest record of regular cricket in the parish of Perran-ar-Worthal dates from 1883, although it is known that the game had been played in the parish for about thirty years prior to this date by a side calling themselves Tredrea Cricket Club. Incidentally they used the same ground as we do today, but continuous cricket did not begin at the present Tredrea ground until 1903, due to various other sites being used for a number of reasons.

A pavilion was obtained in 1892 and was used on other grounds, before being finally erected on the present field in 1903. This served the Club over many years and was finally replaced by our present Clubhouse, pictured above. The original pavilion lasted for over eighty years, its last years being used as an equipment store, but nevertheless a sound investment for £14!

The first mention of Perran-ar-Worthal in the local press relates to the game against Mullion on 29 May 1886 which we lost by 28 runs, because, chasing a total of 52 we were all out 24!
As you browse through our site we hope that you get a sense of the Club, as it is today and as we hope it will be in the future, as you will see we are very active in the junior cricket in the county, because this is our future.

We think that we have one of the most attractive grounds in the county, it is small but beautifully situated in the heart of the village and is a wonderful place to spend a summer afternoon. Even more so if you are a social member able to buy refreshing cool drinks for yourself and the children! See contact information page for details of how to attain that exulted status and open a whole new way of life for summer evenings and weekends.
